Upcoming Summer for Marriage Events: GA, FL, NC, WV, PA, and DC

Freedom to Marry's Summer for Marriage Tour wraps up next week with events in Georgia, Florida, North Carolina, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Washington D.C.  The tour, which was originally organized in response to the National Organization for Marriage's anti-gay “One Man, One Woman” bus tour, has highlighted widespread support for the freedom to marry with supporters of equality outnumbering NOM’s supporters on all 16 stops thus far. 
 
Here's a list of upcoming events: 
 
On Saturday August 7th in Atlanta Georgia, join Georgia Equality, MEGA Family Project, and the Queer Justice League for a rally celebrating the love and commitment of LGBT families. The rally kicks off at noon in Woodruff Park.

On Sunday August 8th, two events in Tampa and Orlando will spotlight LGBT families. In Tampa, equality supporters will gather at noon for a family picnic, followed by a brief press conference and the premiere of “In Anita’s Wake,” a documentary detailing Florida’s adoption ban.  Later that evening, activists in Orlando will also hold a screening of “In Anita’s Wake” followed by a Q&A with the filmmaker. Mayors of both cities have officially declared August 8th “Celebrate LGBT Families day,” and have issued proclamations in support of the events!

On Wednesday August 11th, Fairness WV is hosting an inclusive, family-friendly picnic (with free food and drink) event near the statehouse! The picnic starts at noon at the Living Aids Memorial Garden in Charleston.

On Friday August 13th, Equality Pennsylvania and the LGBT Community Center Coalition of Central Pennsylvania will host a screening of the hit film “Stonewall Uprising” followed by a panel discussion on LGBT youth activism.  The film begins at 7pm at the Midtown Cinema in Harrisburg.

On Sunday August 15th in Washington, D.C. join Courage Campaign, Freedom to Marry, Fully Equality Now! DC, Gay and Lesbian Activists Alliance, and GetEQUAL for The Big Commit. The Big Commit will be a peaceful rally with visible community support for marriage equality that is includes ALL families. The event will be in three parts: a rally with speakers that represent a diverse picture of marriage supporters in Washington, DC; "Exchanging Vows with Equality," recommitting our community to unify in the fight against injustice and inequality, especially as it pertains to marriage equality; followed by an ice cream social.
