Voice for Equality: Brendon Ayanbadejo

Oladele "Brendon" Ayanbadejo is an American professional football linebacker for the Baltimore Ravens of the National Footbball League. He was originally signed by the Atlanta Falcons as an undrafted free agent in 1999 after playing college football at UCLA. Ayanbadejo has been selected to the Pro Bowl three times as a special teams player (2006-2008). He has also been a member of the Chicago Bears and Miami Dolphins in the NFL.

On April 23, 2009, Brendon Ayanbadejo wrote a piece on The Huffington Post in support of marriage equality. Among his comments:

If Britney Spears can party it up in Vegas with one of her boys and go get married on a whim and annul her marriage the next day, why can't a loving same sex couple tie the knot? How could our society grant more rights to a heterosexual one night stand wedding in Vegas than a gay couple that has been together for 3, 5, 10 years of true love? The divorce rate in America is currently 50%. I am willing to bet that marriages between same sex couples have a higher success rate than heterosexual marriages. [Link]

Mr. Ayanbadejo also lent his celebrity to an event sponsored by the marriage equality advocacy group, Equality Maryland, in September, 2009 to celebrate the relocation of its headquarters from Silver Spring to Baltimore. [Link]
