Voice for Equality: Isiah Thomas

"Isiah Thomas might not be able to be a consultant for the Knicks while simultaneously coaching Florida International University's men's basketball team.

"But while he awaits the NBA's decision, the former Knick coach is lending his support to a different cause - opposing a ban on the freedom to marry.

"Thomas and his son, Joshua Thomas, posed for the NOH8 Campaign, a photographic protest of California's marriage equality ban.

"Proposition 8, the voter initiative that banned the freedom to marry in California, is being fought over in court after it was overturned last week by a federal judge. That decision is expected to eventually be appealed to the Supreme Court.

... "'We are Isiah and Joshua Thomas,' Isiah writes on the campaign's website, NOH8Campaign.com. 'We posed for the NOH8 Campaign because we believe that all hate and discrimination is wrong. It is time for full equality and equal rights for everyone, regardless of race, sexual orientation, religion, or gender.'

..."Joshua says he and his father wanted to be a part of NOH8's campaign against a ban on marriage for same-sex couples, adding that the family counts a gay couple in Detroit among their friends.

"'It's something kind of special that we wanted to share as a family and just do it,' said Joshua, who is entering his senior year at Indiana, his dad's alma mater. 'We're for marriage equality and against hate of every kind. We wanted to come from an athlete's perspective.'"
