New Jersey Legislature scheduled to vote on marriage next week

Washington isn't the only state fast-tracking legislation to extend marriage to gay and lesbian couples! Votes on New Jersey's marriage bill are scheduled for next week in the State Assembly and Senate. The Senate will vote on Monday and the Assembly is scheduled to vote on Thursday.

With only days to go before the votes, it's crucial that all New Jerseyans take action now. If you live in New Jersey, click here to urge your legislators to do what's right and pass the bill when it comes to a vote next week!

Want to watch history in the making? Then take a day off next Monday and/or Thursday and join Garden State Equality and hundreds of marriage supporters in Trenton! It'll be a packed house, so GSE recommends that you arrive as early as possible in the morning.

Freedom to Marry staff is heading to New Jersey next week, and we'll be sure to keep you updated on the latest from the Statehouse.

Below is an email that Marc Solomon, our National Campaign Director, just sent out to our New Jersey supporters:

Friend,

We only have a few short days to make sure that the State Senate hears loud and clear that New Jersey residents support the freedom to marry for all loving and committed couples. The New Jersey Senate will vote on a freedom to marry bill on Monday, February 13.

Email your state senators today to urge them to vote for the marriage bill:

This is the first major hurdle in our fight for the freedom to marry in New Jersey. If the bill passes the Senate, it will be voted on in the Assembly on February 16.

Freedom to Marry is partnering closely with Garden State Equality to pass the bill. We have launched a powerful radio ad featuring the family of John and Michael Gallucio and online ads on political blogs throughout the state demonstrating why civil unions do not work.

New Jersey families have waited long enough for the freedom to marry. With your help, we can hasten the day when their dreams become a reality.

Please contact your representatives today:

Thanks for all you do,

Marc Solomon
