Newest cosponsors to Respect for Marriage Act are leading members of Congressional Black Caucus

The newest cosponsors to the Respect for Marriage Act (H.R. 1116) are two leaders within the Congressional Black Caucus.

Rep. William Lacy Clay (D-MO) and Rep. Andre Carson (D-IN) bring the total number of cosponsors for the Respect for Marriage Act to 142. In addition to being a caucus member, Congressman Clay is also the Caucus Whip.

“Representatives Clay and Carson are joining their Senate and House colleagues to take a stand to end federal discrimination against tens of thousands of lawfully married same-sex couples,” said Jo Deutsch, Federal Director of Freedom to Marry

The Respect for Marriage Act would overturn the discriminatory so-called Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA).
