Second New Yorkers United for Marriage TV Ad—Check It Out!

Written by Communications Intern Katie Garcia

Today, New Yorkers United for Marriage – the coalition that Freedom to Marry helped create and co-leads – released its second statewide television ad as part of the coalition’s campaign to pass legislation that would allow gay and lesbian couples to marry in the state of New York.

We are in the final stretch of this legislative session and we need to do all we can do to finally end marriage discrimination in New York. With your help, this important ad can be seen by legislators and constituents across the state. Will you help us by donating $10 to keep this ad on the air?

In this ad, New Yorkers will get to meet Paul and Iris Blumenthal, a straight couple married for 47 years who want to hear their son Jonathan and his partner Eric say, “I do”.

“A good marriage is thinking about and caring for the other person even more than you care about yourself and we have seen this in Jonathan and Eric’s relationship to each other,” Iris Blumenthal states in this ad. “It would give us such a great joy to walk them down the aisle and see them get married.”

Freedom to Marry has been working hard with the rest of New Yorkers United for Marriage coalition to deliver over 10,000 reply cards signed by New Yorkers across the state to the state legislature asking for the passage of marriage equality legislation. Freedom to Marry has devoted its staff, supporters, and resources, pulling every stop to get this done. But we cannot do it without you.

Please make a donation to help make sure as many New Yorkers (and legislators) as possible hear what Paul and Iris Blumenthal have to say about marriage equality. Make marriage equality a reality in New York now:
