Gay couples around America went to clerks' offices to request marriage licenses yesterday. From Austin to Albuquerque, Virginia to San Francisco, gay couples went to county and city clerks' offices to request marriage licenses on Valentine's Day. Of course, in all but five states and the District of Columbia, they were denied – no matter how long they'd been together or how much they loved each other.
